Denmark to Frasers Range Station

We left Denmark and travelled through to a free camping site called Fitzgerald Old School site (about 60kms before Jerramungup). The school operated until 1995 and they have removed all the buildings but the old square ball markings and basketball lines are still visible. We explored for a little while and then sat down to eat dinner followed by bath time / showers for the kids. During shower time another van came so the idea of a public shower no longer appealed so Mars and I gave that a miss ;) Even the toilet had to be strategically positioned for 'privacy' - next time the tent will definitely be set up! A quick game of square ball before bed made sure everyone got their fair share of mozzie bites.

The campsite was fantastic, loads of birds (finches in particular!) made plenty of noise. The wind was howling for a while then later in the night we had rain.

In the morning we got on the road around 9:30 - a slow start. We drove through to Esperance where we found every shop was shut due to public holiday! But not Bunnings... so we got what we needed and drove through to Norseman where again... all the shops were shut.

We got back on the road and drove another 100kms to Frasers Range Station, which is a functioning station with camping facilities. There was plenty for the kids to explore and run around to get rid of their energy!

Denmark Family Holiday

Monday, 19th December we headed down to Denmark. After packing up and cleaning our house, said goodbye to Rusty and the chooks, finalised our work paperwork we finally hit the road and arrived in Denmark about 6.30pm. We stayed at Denmark Ocean Beach Caravan Park which is beautiful, spacious and the kids love it.

Tuesday, we headed to Greens Pool which is just magic. The boys promptly headed off across the rock to do some fishing. When they got tired of that (or unsuccessful) they swam and climbed rocks. The weather was great, we all returned to the caravan somewhat rosier than we left.

Wednesday was predicted to be a hot day so we drove out to Parrys Beach. We parked our cars on the beach and set up the shade awnings so we could enjoy the view without getting burnt. The kids spent the day swimming and fishing. Mars caught a few herring but not enough for dinner :)  After dinner back at the caravan park we had a few showers of rain and thunder and lightning which cooled everything down nicely!

Thursday, we relaxed in the morning and spent the afternoon at the Denmark Inlet.  The storm the previous night had allowed the ocean to wash into the Inlet getting rid of the brackish, brown water and the water was crystal clear.  Again, the kids tried fishing but again with little result ;) They had a ball swimming and even Rowan got his confidence in the calm shallow water!

Friday we went to the Denmark Thrills and Adventure Park, a very cheap place to take the kids. They had the opportunity to climb a tree being harnessed up and then stand out on a ledge at the 12m mark. Karli AMAZED us all by shimmying right up the tree without a second thought. They were able to climb it a second time and she did it again! There was also a flying fox which was a lot of fun!

Saturday we met at the Boston Brewery for lunch and drinks to celebrate Mums birthday. It was very enjoyable and the kids enjoyed the playground there.

Sunday we drove to Albany for the Christmas church service by Rev Alkema. In the afternoon we drove to West Albany for a service also by Rev Alkema. We enjoyed Christmas dinner in Glen and Sams unit overlooking the parkland and inlet. The ham was amazing and seafood fantastic!

Monday we packed up and said our goodbyes to the extended family. We'd had a really enjoyable week and the kids had a BLAST with all their cousins! The adults had fun with the card games - something we will miss when we're on our own!
