Bungendore to Sydney

Thursday morning we packed up in the rain and stopped in town for a grocery re-stock and coffee for the road.  The drizzle was constant as we drove to Batemans Bay.  We stopped at a park by a bridge to stretch our legs and cook some lunch - as there wasn't much else to do while it was so wet!  We waited to see what happens when the boats go through - the centre section of the bridge gets raised so the boats can pass through.

While we were in Batemans Bay we headed into BCF for a few items (and to get out of the rain!)  We piled back into the car and headed up the coast.  By this time it was bucketing down with rain and the creeks were starting to flow onto the roads and everything was waterlogged!  We arrived at some showgrounds in Milton which was completely waterlogged and boggy. After checking it for 1 minute we decided to stay at a caravan park instead.

We drove to a park in Milton, paid for a site then drove in to find our site. The water was GUSHING through the park, the small ditch was flooded and flowing very fast, as was the water on the road. The site that we were allocated was very slushy so we tried to find something a bit more elevated and less likely to become boggy.  We found something that we could make work (not actually a site but none would be checking anyway!) Mars dropped us off at the large camp kitchen so the kids could watch tv and I could make dinner!  The camp kitchen has quite a leak so it also had water all overe the floor but was still a drier option than outside! Unfortunately with all the rain we did not stop to take photos!

We managed to have a reasonable night sleep then pack up after breakfast to keep going. We knew that there were several road closures due to the flooding so we were unsure how far we would get. As it turned out we had a fairly easy drive into Sydney.  We found our Caravan Park and located our site. It wasn't what we were hoping for so we managed to swap to another site which wasn't so muddy and was cleaner for Axel to play on.
Axel practising his standing!

After setting up and some lunch we went for a walk to the Westfield Shopping Centre about 1km up the road. This is also where the train station was located. We managed a quick hour of browsing in the MASSIVE shopping centre then headed back to our caravan park.
