Geeveston

We left Dunalley and made our way to Hobart where Mars wanted to get the caravan water pump checked... again.  While he sorted that I walked with the kids to McDonalds for lunch.  Mars joined us later and we headed off to Geeveston.  We passed a number of beautiful towns while on the Huon Highway, with picturesque settings on the river.  We kept on going until Geeveston where we found the local park where they offered free camping.

We set up the camper overlooking the park, which had working traffic signals, stop signs and roundabouts, as well as fuel bowsers for the thirsty scooter engines.  While they kids entertained themselves there I did a heap of washing and drying as the laundromat was just around the corner.

Before dinner we headed to the creek to look for platypus.  Any opportunity to find them in 'the wild' is always taken up by the kids.  We found one and could've watched it for hours!  The platypus is such an interesting animal, maybe because we don't have them in the West or because they are somewhat elusive - but the kids were intrigued by them and had to be persuaded to come back to the caravan for dinner.

The following day we had planned to head into Hobart to visit the Salamanca Markets.  We left the van in Geeveston and made our way to Hobart.  We had a short walk from the carpark to the markets. When we got there it was packed.  It was a beautiful summers day so everyone had come out to enjoy the markets!  We made our way up one way, stopping for fresh juice and then made our way back down again.  It was quite tricky keeping tabs on where the kids were so it made for a slightly stressful trip! However, the kids did enjoy the experience!

We drove out of Hobart and back to Geeveston for a quick lunch then headed out to the Tahune Air Walk.  We walked through the forest at ground level, then walked the Airwalk through the tree canopy.  Mars and the kids loved the cantilever, suspended 48m high.  There was a beautiful view over where the Huon and Picton Rivers meet.

This sign on the bridge shows the water level when the river was flooded in 2016 (highest marker).

Raring to go at the beginning of the walk...

A small scale version of the cantilever.

We kept walking through the forest and found the swinging bridges.  These were a hit with the kids and they made the most of trying to bounce each other!  Rowan wasn't as keen but managed to walk the end of the bridge onto solid land.

The walk back to the entry got a little big long for tired legs but we made it in the end (with lots of complaints!).  Lots of encouragement was needed!

When we arrived back at the car we made our way back to camp and decided to stay there for another night.  The kids had no complaints and we again went platypus watching and did a bit more scootering through the Traffic Circuit.
