Oatlands, Ross and Deloraine

In the morning the boys got up early to do some more river fishing - however, still no success!  Mars is pretty happy that he doesn't have to bait up for them!

We left the Mount Field National Park and stopped at Bridgewater to meet up with Dad & Mum Postmus! They were heading South to Hobart and we were heading North - we arrived within a minute of each other!  We enjoyed catching up over some lunch in ... McDonalds ...

We continued on our trip and stopped at Oatlands.  An old restored mill called Callington Mill still operates producing locally grown flour by processing it the old fashioned way. We just missed the tour so we decided not to stay for the next one.

Our next stop was an old convict town called Ross.  The bridge into the town was built by convict stonemasons.  The masons were both freed when they had finished the bridge.

We strolled through the town, stopping at a convict built Church first.  Obviously the building contrasts to ours at home, with the stained glass windows, wooden pews and different plaques displayed.  The kids noticed the plaque with the 10 Commandments and were surprised at it, given that the building is so different to ours but they still believe in the 'same' thing?

We continued down into the town, with a brief stop at a Tourist type shop followed by a Wool Shop with a museum out the back. As it was 4pm we were limited on time to look through but we easily spent an hour in the museum!  It included information on the convicts (and what they'd built in Ross), displays with different weapons, then information on the wool industry. It was fantastic!

After finishing our walk through the town with a Vanilla Slice we continued on our way to Deloraine.

As we set up camp in Deloraine another camper told us 'we've seen you before - in Scottsdale!'  Apparently when you have 5 children you become easily recognisable!
