From Sheffield to Stanley is approximately a 2 and a 1/2 hour drive along the coast. Its a very picturesque drive. When we arrived in Stanley it was just beautiful! The bay was flat calm and with the sunshine the water was very inviting. The boys went off to explore up the beach, when they came back we had some lunch and tried to decide what to do for the afternoon. Stay and enjoy the beach, climb the 'Nut' or travel on to Arthur River (our camp that night). We decided it was too hot to do any walking / climbing up the Nut. The kids were given the opportunity for a quick swim if they wanted and then we continued driving to Arthur River, approximately 1 and 1/2 hour drive.
Quick swim!
We stopped in at our campground for the night, a National Park site called Manuka Campground. We then headed into ''town'' to see where to pay for the campsite and to see what was in Arthur River. Suffice to say ... there is NO TOWN at Arthur River! There are no shops, apart from a house with an office-sized room full of expensive grocery items.
We ventured out to a point of the coast that was signposted 'Edge of the World'. It was really windy and rough! The river meets the ocean here and on the shore lay piles of trees, washed down the river over time. It certainly feels like you're on the Edge of the World!
After being blown away there we made our way to our camp and found a perfect campsite away from everyone. The kids were very excited to be able to make a fire! We even managed to find some marshmallows to roast!
We had an enjoyable evening around the fire!
