Motor Museum

As we had come down to Hahndorf we had missed out a few things so we left the caravan at Hahndorf and drove back to the Birdwood National Motor Museum.  The kids quickly moved past the first old car and found the video games, screens and virtual racing game! Fairly sure Mars and I could've gone through the whole museum on our own and collected them on our way out!  But... no such luck for them... or us! The cashier gave all the kids a Q & A book for them to go through on their way around the museum. It made it much more appealing for them.

There was only one or two cars that they could actually get in but lots to see and read about! They learnt about a famous mailman (Tom Kruse!) who did a mail route (Birdwood to Marree) that took him a week round trip.

They moved on to an old car that had lots of different everyday items lacquered into the body. So they went through a checklist to find all the items.

We then browsed through the huge display rooms filled with old cars / quirky cars / old fire engines, etc followed by motorbikes from varying decades.

Look Mum! It's Herbie!

One day...

After a quick lunch we took a slight detour to see the Biggest Rocking Horse - can you see Mars and the kids perched up the top???

From there we drove out to the Maggie Beer farm. Chad and I did some sampling while Mars waited in the car with the sleeping kids. Then we all had some afternoon treats on the deck while we watched the turtles (or tortoise?) in the dam below.

Followed by a stroll through the farm where all the fowl are kept.  The kids were mesmerised by the peacock.

And then we drove all the way back to Hahndorf in the drizzling rain.
