Carrow Wells to Cowell

We woke up early and it was very warm already. A local had warned us that it was going to be a HOT day. After breakfast we started packing up while trying to keep out of the sun (and 3 million flies!)

We drove in the HEAT - by 10:30am (daylight savings time) it was 42 degrees! We stopped at Arno Bay and headed to a boardwalk over an Estuary / salt water creek where there's lots of mangroves.  We did the 500m boardwalk and it was fine going one way... but trying to get back again was a mission! The sun and heat zapped all of our energy!  But it worked out well for a quick science lesson on the mangroves.

Hot red faces! Catching our breath before the walk back!

Little legs need LOTS of encouragement to keep going!

We stayed for a while swimming in the creek. The water was flowing well and was a welcome relief from the heat! There was lots of small (baby) fish so it obviously works as a breeding ground for fish.

From there we kept driving until we came to Cowell. Everything was closed by 2pm in town! IGA... bakery... on a Saturday! We still have to get used to that!

We booked into Harbour View Caravan Park as we knew it had a pool and could run the aircon if we needed to. We spent the afternoon in the pool, even that felt warm after a short while! About 5pm the wind direction changed and by 6pm the clouds had rolled in and it was raining!

We made use of the campers kitchen which had an OVEN! Yay! I baked a cake for Rowans birthday the next day. The crowd of grey nomads who come to hang out together from 6.30 is quite impressive!

Rowan started dinner a little earlier than the rest of us and couldn't handle trying to finish his dinner or waiting for us to finish.  Poor little tacker!
