Drummond Point to Port Lincoln

We left Drummond Point after a quick play on the beach for the boys.

Our pathway to the beach

We were heading to Minniribbie Farm - a free range pig farm. We ducked into Coffin Bay first to give Axel a bit longer nap and pick up some fuel. We had read reviews about the food at the Pig Farm so - given that we are 'educating the kids' we thought this was a great opportunity to show them how pigs should be farmed.

The food was a real treat and the kids enjoyed looking through the antique shop and then onto the pigs and piglets. We were expecting PINK pigs but these are black pigs!

The kids were a bit shocked that a perfectly clean pig would ACTUALLY go and lay in mud!

After that 'learning' experience we left full of pancakes and bacon and ready to tackle the rest of our day! We drove back into Coffin Bay and went to a lookout overlooking the bay. The information sign cleared up what we'd all been wondering - why name it 'Coffin' Bay? Apparently Matthew Flinders - while exploring the coast here named the bay after his friend Admiral Sir Isaac Coffin. Nothing to do with death...

Coffin Bay is located 21km from the open ocean. There are many channels and inlets to fish in and there's plenty of life in them!

We drove down to the boat ramp to watch the boats come in and out - so much activity! The pelicans here are well fed and know when to come in for a feed!

We stopped and spoke to a man fishing round the corner from the boat ramp. He was pulling in herring (or Tommys as they call them here) one after the other! So the boys went and convinced Mars (who was waiting in the car while Axel slept) to pull out the fishing gear so they could have a go.

So we set up for the afternoon. Mars tried lures and soft plastics. Chad tried squid and prawns. Nothing. Thankfully the fisherman brought us a bag of cockels from his stash at home and then the boys started catching something! Just herring but they were happy just to be catching them! Karli and Rowan explored the rocks and found lots of shells including razorfish shells. They are massive!

Mars finally caught a fish using soft plastics!

We packed up eventually and then drove about 45 minutes to Port Lincoln where we stayed in a caravan park so we could catch up on washing!

After we set up the boys quickly got their rods out again and made themselves comfortable on the jetty. Actually, Brenton didn't even have his rod out yet... he got friendly with a little boy who nicely had turns with him! Hahaha! Typical Brenton!
