Head of the Bight to Coorabie Farm (out from Fowlers Bay)

After waking at 6.30 our time we were shocked to realise it was 8.30 local time! It's going to take us a bit to get used to the time change AND daylight saving.

We eventually made our way through the gate and down to the Head of the Bight. Since Mars had seen it before he stayed behind with Axel. We took the walkways down to some great view points. As its not currently whale season there wasn't any to be seen. Once again - the cliffs were spectacular.

On our way out we met some people we'd spoken to previously, Mars managed to score some vegies off them as they were heading through Ceduna and we weren't on that day (true Mars style!).

We had a shorter day planned - just 150kms to our planned destination. A working sheep farm called Coorabie Farm. It's located 10kms inland from Fowlers Bay. As Fowlers Bay has a very small caravan park we were anticipating that it would be full when we got there.  The farm was perfect for what we needed. There was just 2 other cars there and lots of room for the kids to explore and roam. There was old farming machinery for them to climb on, a small horse to feed and pat, even Rowan was adventuring way out of his comfort zone!

The camp kitchen / fire pit

We spent the afternoon looking around Fowlers Bay (trying out the jetty for fish - there was none) and then took a horribly corrugated track to (what we'd later find out to be) Scotts Beach.  We could've stayed all evening but there's always dinner to be made, even when you're camping!  The kids enjoyed exploring the rock pools and then tried some fishing. Rowan loved playing with his 'monster trucks' on the beautiful sandy beach!

We took the beach and dunes back to the main road - a significantly smoother ride than the corrugated road on the way in!!! Kids loved it!

After dinner the kids made their way to be and the adults made their way to the camp fire, where the farmers Poggy and Deb had joined the other campers. The stories they had to tell were fantastic - it was a very enjoyable night!

We decided to stay on the farm for another night so in the morning the kids got to explore the farm yard. They ventured off to the old farming machinery. Somewhere they found some .22 bullets and our neighbours Brent & Lorraine (who became surrogate grandparents for the day) drilled holes in them to wear them on a piece of string as a necklace.

We then looked through the shearing sheds and imagined how it would all run in full swing.  The kids all joined in imagining themselves as sheep and running through the corals and into the shed, down the slides and through the gates. We could look at the shearing equipment and merino wool for them to feel.

After lunch we decided to head out to find a different beach (called Mexican Hat). When we got there it was extremely wind and cool so we drove along the dunes for a while and made our way along the coast back to Scotts Beach where we'd been the day before. It was quite windy but still enjoyable.

When we got back to camp the other neighbour had his quad bike out and hooked it up to a trailer and took the kids for a tour of the farm. They had a blast!!!

After dinner and showers Mars headed back to the jetty with Chad and Brenton (at 9pm!!! It's still so light then!) to try for some squid.  They came back around 10 - Chad had success with one squid! We got the boys to bed and then sat around the fire pit with the farmers and other campers to see in the New Year.  Around 11:30 the farmer came out clanging his 'rifle' and wearing his Ned Kelly outfit! The stories around the campfire were well worth staying up late for!
